13 – Sienna, the critic

Sienna, the astute critic, speaks up.

The companions—Baxter, Jasper, Leo, Luna, Milo, and now Zuri—continued on. The painted forest lay quietly around them, as if it were waiting for an answer itself. Yet within this silence, there was no peace.

“You sense it too, don’t you?” A voice broke the silence. Clear, yet friendly. Sienna, the astute critic, stepped out from the shadows of a faded tree. Her fur glowed in bright white with a bit of gray, a few light circles, and fine, almost invisible lines running across her body—as if someone had tried to paint her but never finished the final stroke.

Jasper flicked his ears. “Sienna? Where have you been all this time?”
She examined him with a calm gaze. “I’ve been here all along from the beginning.”

Leo nodded slowly. “You’ve been observing our entire journey.”

“And pondering,” she added. “While you’re searching for the first brushstroke, I wonder: why? Why is it so important to know who painted us? Does it change anything? That could be dangerous!”

Silence. This time, not the thoughtful silence they knew from Zuri—but a tense, suffocating silence.

Milo was the first to swallow.”Dangerous? Why?” His ears twitched nervously. “What should we be afraid of?”

“Sometimes the danger lies not in what you find,” Sienna said calmly, “but in the fact that you can no longer forget it.”

Baxter languidly raised an eyebrow. “Well, as long as the sun shines and the moss is soft, I don’t need to count brushstrokes. But if it gets dangerous, we can turn back, can’t we?”

Leo was silent for a moment. Then he slowly shook his head. “Not if the answer is already waiting for us.”

“Ha!” Jasper scoffed. “Knowledge is no danger. The only danger is not daring anything!”

“You’re too confident,” Luna murmured. “Sienna is right—we don’t know what awaits us.”

A faint rustling in the underbrush made them pause. What was that? The tension was almost unbearable.

Sometimes, it’s not the path that changes us – but a question.
Or the answer to one.

Sienna reminds us that insight isn’t always easy.
But once seen, it cannot be unseen.

Sienna questions.
With a gaze that doesn’t search – it sees.

Those who meet her feel it:
Not every truth brings peace.

She doesn’t ask if you’re ready.
She asks: What happens if you’re not?

And sometimes,
that’s enough
to change your direction.
